# Small bedroom layout with a queen bed: test the fit

Start with the bed frame’s outer dimensions, then subtract them from the clear room dimensions. Compare access on both sides, the foot of the bed and the wardrobe before adding a desk or bedside tables.

## Measure the frame, not only the mattress

Queen is a product label, not a complete footprint. Frame edges, an upholstered headboard and storage drawers can extend beyond the mattress. Copy the width and length from the exact product specification or measure your existing frame.

Our example uses an assumed 1600 × 2100 mm outer bed frame in a room with clear internal dimensions of 3000 × 3600 mm. It is a layout exercise, not a minimum bedroom size or a universal queen-bed specification.

## Compare two positions in the same room

## Test the activities that the empty floor must support

A clear rectangle is not automatically a usable route. Draw the entry-door swing, open a wardrobe door and allow room to stand in front of it. Mark the bed’s drawer extension separately if it has under-bed storage. Compare the most constrained operating state rather than the neatest screenshot.

If you add a 600 mm-deep desk at the foot in this example, the remaining 900 mm is shared by the seated person, chair movement and anyone passing. Try it with the actual chair before treating it as a comfortable workstation. A narrower desk on another wall may solve a different problem, but only if the doorway and storage remain usable.

## Compare layouts without moving heavy furniture

Keep the two versions at the same scale. If one drawing uses a smaller bed symbol, the apparent improvement is not a layout improvement.

1. Draw your measured bedroom shell in FloorDraft and place the fixed openings.
2. Add a bed and enter the actual frame dimensions.
3. Export or back up the centered version before changing it.
4. Move the bed toward a wall and compare access for each person.
5. Measure the tightest gaps and check the preferred layout with tape on the real floor.

## Questions

### Can a queen bed fit in a 10 × 10 foot room?

The room size alone is not enough to decide. Check the outer frame, openings, storage and how each person gets in and out. A footprint fitting does not establish comfortable access.

### Is a corner bed always better?

It frees one larger area, but removes access along a side and makes changing bedding harder. It is a trade-off to test for your household.
