Before you start drawing
How do I start if I have never drawn a floor plan?
Open the editable two-bedroom example and try moving furniture or adjusting walls. You can also start with a blank design and draw one room. Have your wall lengths, door and window positions, and furniture measurements ready to make layouts easier to compare.
Do I need an account to draw a floor plan?
No. You can draw and arrange furniture for free in a desktop browser. Sign in with Google when you want to export PNG, PDF or DXF files. Exports are free and have no FloorDraft watermark.
Can I upload an existing floor plan?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG as a tracing reference. Set the scale using a known length in the image, then draw the walls and add doors and windows yourself.
Can I check whether a bed, sofa or desk will fit?
Yes. Draw the room to its measured size, enter the actual width and depth of your furniture, and try different positions. Leave room to walk, open doors and cupboards, and pull out chairs.
Can I start with incomplete room measurements?
Yes. Use estimates to explore a layout, then adjust it when you have measurements. When tracing an image, calibrate it with one known length and check a second length. Remeasure important dimensions and clearances before buying furniture.
Should I export PNG, PDF or DXF?
Choose PNG to share a layout image, PDF to send a document or print an overview, and DXF to continue drawing in CAD. Keep the original project or download a design backup for later edits in FloorDraft.
Can I print a floor plan to scale?
Export DXF, then set the units and print scale in a CAD application. After printing, check a known length with a ruler. The PDF export is for viewing the layout, not taking measurements from the page.
How do I continue on another computer?
Sign in with Google and save your project to the cloud. Once it shows Synced, sign in with the same account on another computer and open it from My projects. Each account can save up to 3 cloud projects.
Will my floor plan be public?
No. Designs are saved in your browser first. If you choose cloud saving, access requires your account. Before clearing browser data, save to the cloud or download a design backup, and keep the original reference image separately.
Do I need to install software, and can I draw on my phone?
No installation is needed. Use a desktop browser to draw and export. On your phone, you can read the help pages and drawing guides.
